How to Fold a Classic Paper Airplane

2 minutes · One sheet of paper

This is the classic dart-style paper airplane — simple to fold and reliably good at flying straight and far.

Steps

  1. Fold a standard sheet of paper in half lengthwise, then unfold to leave a center crease.
  2. Fold the top two corners down to meet the center crease, forming a triangle at the top.
  3. Fold the top point down so it meets the bottom edge of the triangle you just made.
  4. Fold the top corners in again toward the center line to form the nose.
  5. Fold the plane in half along the original center crease.
  6. Fold each side down to create the wings, lining the top edge up with the bottom of the body.
Tip: crease every fold firmly with your fingernail — a sharp crease makes a noticeable difference in how straight the plane flies.
